The Tivaevae Manu Series
This 3 piece series is an extension of the Tivaivai series - sharing the same concept of recreating ideas that I took from my college education. using the art of Cookisland Tivaevae quilting as inspiration. However through some research I discovered that there were slight variations within this art practice.
The Tivaevae manu style is heavily based around large floral motifs instead of smaller patches that complete individual quilts. With that in mind, I decided to explore a loose and organic approach to the series. Incorporating floral shapes and patterns in bright ,vibrant colours to pay respects to the original feel of the Tivaevae Manu style of quilting.
Aski is an emerging artist based in Wellington city. She has recently started to share her work on instagram and is slowly starting to expand her platforms into different stores and galleries around New Zealand. Aski is currently exploring art that reflects her Maori and Pacific heritage in the form of hand drawn patterns and motifs as a means to reconnect to her whakapapa and her pacific roots.
