Ipu Whenua
Natural Harakeke
Muka & Paua Shell Button clip

Comes with 2 compostable & biodegradable bags to contain the whenua.

This Ipu whenua was created together by Ani and Uriah. To give whanau a vessel that is woven from harakeke, to perform simple rituals 'whenua ki te whenua' to return baby's placenta back to Papatuanuku.

All raranga is cultivated and harvested on Ani's family whenua along the banks of the old Ngaruroro Awa in Heretaunga. Flax is boiled and cleaned during the preparation process.

Ani McGuire descends from Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Porou, and Tuwharetoa.
Living in Hawkes Bay, Ani is a traditional raranga weaver and is expanding her art practice in surface pattern design. Raranga has been a constant in her life. She has exhibited and collaborated with local artists. Currently she is interested in the construction of traditional pacific sailmaking for waka haurua and waka taurua. Where she is committed to the pursuit of preserving knowledge of her tupuna.
