Synchrotopia is a merge of two different words - synchronize and topia. Synchronize: making things work together and topia: place, position, location and geographic region. ‘Synchrotopia’ gives meaning to the artworks visually and describes each artwork being a sanctuary of playful colours.
The artwork is to represent energy visually with connections to nature, having different uses of colours, shapes and dimensions.
‘Synchrotopia’ becomes a repeated pattern and form of energy, which flows throughout each individual artwork.
The playful concept of the paintings, sculptures and installation create depth within each work. All layering, patterns and frequency lines within each colour and shape help create the synchronised purpose - interconnected to each other.
All colours and abstract forms create this visual language, about how humans and nature are interconnected with each other, like a reflection.
Using vibrant colours, sequences of bright and bold abstract shapes helped morph and weave the colours influenced from nature into the human-like configured artworks. Creating an interconnection and purposeful juxtaposition array of vibrant and playful colours. This created an organic influence throughout each piece.
From a burst of bright and bold coloured shapes that morph together, the artworks turn into a colourful formation. Each artwork is to create an impact on the public viewers and excite that energetic charge within us, just as we go to nature to recharge our body. The placement of the artworks creates an urban, natural and electrifying frequency of colours - that transfer from one body (artworks) to the other (window space).
‘Synchrotopia’ creates this space of gazing and feeling nature's energy, seeing a reflection, connection and energy feeding back to us. Take a glance at our natural surroundings and see how nature breathes new energy into our lives.
‘Synchrotopia’ acts as this vessel to communicate messages: to live, work and play within the divine energy of nature and each other, flowing into balance.
About the artist
Taranaki based multidisciplinary artist, Sean Hill, has been creating art ever since he could remember. From a young age, Sean always had an interest in designs and a fascination with objects to create his own illustrative designs throughout his life. Fast forward now, graduating from university studying Visual Arts, Sean’s practice is all about conceptual thinking of art and art making. Finding textures through different uses of refurbished pallet wood, to creating mini-sculptures from off-cuts.
From an experienced background in large public mural displays, Sean tends to save his detailed and precise artworks for exhibiting in contemporary galleries. As of recently Sean’s mural designs have become part of the contemporary gallery space, showing the importance of temporary display that won’t be seen again - a nuanced thinking from his graffiti background.
Sean’s practice has taken him into a world of endless creativity, creativity that is abundant with colours, abstract shapes, dimensions and now mini to large sculptural artworks, using the same concepts of his paintings but creating them into 3-Dimensional displays. Sean’s vision is to show the importance of colours and how we can see colours transform into large mural installations and paintings to create physical and colourful sculptures that you can touch or move.
Frequency, vibration, energy, sequences, formations and dimensions are everything in Sean’s practice and for the audience to experience what he makes from scratch.
Sean leaves you with this - if a butterfly was not a contrasting orange or blue it would not stand out.
