About the artist:
My name is Rewa Fowles (she/they) through the arts I go by TOIREWA, for my ceramics and illustrations I post my creations and process on instagram as @divine_tangiweto. I am a queer takatāpui Māori and Pākehā multidisciplinary artist and honorary tangiweto (sook/sensitive girlie). I also bring with me my upbringing as a third culture kid, growing up in multiple countries, Fiji, Mongolia, Thailand, and China, bringing me back to Aotearoa when I was 19. My upbringing and identities inform my artistic practice and projects I collaborate on. Through the visual arts I am self taught in illustrations and ceramics, though I have inherited skills from observing how my dad creates and looks at art, he was my art teacher in primary school and is currently teaching pottery in Kerikeri. My illustrations and ceramics are based on my love for making functional art inspired by the physical environment around me, specifically of the moana and whenua with an ethereal, spiritual, takatāpui flare that highlight the wairua and magic of my community.
