urban whakapapa is a visual diary and ongoing wānanga for Deane-Rose Ngatai-Tua. It’s a kaupapa that connects with a generation of urban Māori in Tāmaki Makaurau—capturing and sharing their identities, realities, stories, and experiences.

This first print issue, a thousand wounds, explores the pūhoro reclamation journey of her husband Jarrod Tua, as guided by her sister and tā moko artist Fern Ngatai.
