Rest, Ritual, and Resistance

For our 6th edition of the Moana Fresh art calendar, we invited 13 Māori and Pasifika artists to reflect on how we care for ourselves and each other while resisting colonial systems and imagining just futures. This call comes at a time when we are witnessing genocide globally, and across Te Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa we face ongoing occupation, colonial violence, and a climate in crisis. These harms echo the histories of our peoples, but they also remind us of our resilience. Through ancestral models of care, these works show that tending to self and collective care is not only healing it is a radical act of survival.

If all goes to plan we should have these instore by Saturday 1st November.

The 2026 Moana Fresh art calendar features 13 artists: 

Damien Levi, Elsie Andrewes, Māia Keane, Lili’uokalani Cantlay, Atirak Noskcaj, Waka Huia Reipo, p.Walters, Te ‘Okota’i Paitai, Chantel Matthews, Ahi Nyx, Jessica Gerbic, Taualofa Totua, Tamatha Paul.

Dimensions: 300mm x 300mm, wire bound, uncoated, heavy card with plenty of room to organise our busy lives.

Full and new moon symbols support marama-related planning. As this is a solar calendar, we have used the Gregorian dates as a baseline.

We have continued to build on our dates on significance from across Te Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa. These dates are non-exhaustive, and we will continue to add year after year. Please contact aloha@moanafresh.com if you see a date we should add.
