At the Market A4 Print by Remiah
Figurative paintings of women are all from what I’ve seen around the island.. I’ve made up a story in my head from what I’ve seen & lived since being here. Strong feminine energy through our Cook Island women has become a common theme with my Vaine paintings. Wearing the handmade Rito hat, fan, earrings or pearls is normal. Modernizing the clothing recently as I envision fashion evolving like we do as people.
The first one I ever painted of a woman with a Mumu, Rito hat & fan was from an older local woman walking past me at the market. She had a strong walk - almost intimidating, but at the same time extremely elegant & graceful. She was beautiful. I had to put her on canvas that same day.
